Will "Get Out" win at the Oscars? Looking back on Academy Award winning horror films
The film "Get Out" has been nominated for four Academy Awards, which is no small feat for any film, but particularly noteworthy for a horror/suspense film.
While it's not uncommon for genre films to take home technical awards -- particularly for categories such as Best Makeup -- "Get Out" has an opportunity to claim Oscars for categories including Best Picture and Best Director, a feat rarely achieved by any horror movies.
How do you think it stacks up against these Oscar-winning fright-filled films? Let's take a look:
"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1931)
Winner: Best Actor (Fredric March)
Nominated: Best Writing Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography Black-and-White
"The Phantom of the Opera" (1943)
Winner: Best Cinematography, Best Production Design
Nominated: Best Production Design, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Musical
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1945)
Winner: Best Cinematography, Black-and-White
Nominated: Best Supporting Actress (Angela Lansbury), Best Art Direction-Interior Decoration, Black-and-White
