Review: Balloom- Eerie thriller

Horror movies always go well with masses. Many have won in the past. Balloon is actor Jai’s first full-length horror film.

When a filmmaker is forced to make a horror movie because of some external pressures from producer, he camps at a hill station in search of the story of a haunted house that he comes across in Facebook.

With this one line plot, Balloon is packed with a lot of horror elements that we have seen in Kollywood and Hollywood horror movies in the past. A black cat, an innocent kid, a haunted house, an exorcist, a conjurous clown, suspicious house maid, a ghost capturing camera and so on – whatever we have seen in the past.

Though the movie has these many horror elements knitted in a screenplay, it has turned out to be a clumsy show and even irritates us a lot.

The movie is about an aspiring filmmaker Jeevanandham (Jai) who wants to make his debut film is advised by a producer to set his realistic script aside and make a horror film first. Jeevanandham goes to Ooty.

He wants to visit a haunted house there with wife Jacqueline (Anjali). His aim is to get inspiration for a real life story. They are accompanied by Jeeva’s two friends-assistants (Yogi Babu and Karthik Yogi), and his nephew, Pappu. There some eerie tings happen and Jeevanandham realises a sore past about him. All have a connection in his life. What happens them forms the crux.

The visuals at many places are scary. Add to it Yuvan Shankar Raja’s wonderful horror theme music.

Jai has played his part well. He fits the bill as balloon seller and that of a filmmaker well. Anjali performs with such ease while Janani Iyer has enough screen space. Yogi Babu sizzles with his super show.

Balloon has logical loopholes and a sense of deja vu prevails.
